How safe do you feel?

This is a big question, isn’t it?  How safe do I actually feel?  What makes me feel safe?  When do I feel safe? Can I trust mySelf?

This is all part of the limbic brains job!  This part of the brain as well as others, are constantly scanning the external world to see if we are safe.  When we feel safe, our hearts as well as our minds open up to new possibilities.

Think about this for a moment.  What numbers on the scale make me feel safe/good? What amount in the bank does this for me?  What behaviors of my family?  What about the environment, what is a safe level of pollution?  What about cholesterol number is safe for you? What level of income?  What location do I need to live in? Job security?  How do my team members need to be for me to feel safe? These are all things that can worry us, create anger in us, fear in us.

On the opposite side, some can feel good to us.  Think about having enough, time, love, money, political stability, perfect weight, healthy body, work that is meaningful, fun loving friendships.

Can you see this is all about perceptions?  Research is finding out that when we feel safe, our brains function differently, more optimally than we don’t feel safe.

When we really learn how to trust our inner guidance, I know that is when I feel the safest;-)

A colleague shared this study with me about the research being done at Yale and I found it fascinating and wanted to share it with you.
