Resilience and why it matters

I saw this video in a class for volunteers to understand the power of resilience from an African American male.  I loved it so I wanted to share it with you.  I even had my grandchildren watch it.

What does resilience mean to you?

A great definition of resilience I have shared with other is from the military.  Resilience is defined as the capacity to prepare for, recover from and adapt in the face of stress, challenge or adversity.

Capacity?  Just like I can build my capacity in the physical domain I can build my capacity in the mental, emotional and spiritual domains.  Take a moment and contemplate how you can personally do this in each domain.

Now, how do you view resiliency?  How can you build your capacity in each domain?

With all the changes and challenges facing humanity at this time we may want to consider the above inquiry.

I do trainings to help people build their capacity to be resilient.  As I look at what I have personally experienced in the past years, I can actually say I have truly built my capacity!

Listen to his comment on being a victim of circumstances, and the little shift he makes around not “being” a victim…..more about this one later.
