9/11 Do you remember, forget, forgive?

imagesYesterday was the anniversary of 9/11.  I truly had forgotten until I rode my bike past the fire department (those who represented the first responders in New York that day) I saw the sign  9/11 Let us never forget!  As I rode by my heart felt heavy.  Yes, I will remember those lost and those who had loved ones lost…I blessed them all in my own way.

Then it hit me, the thoughts of how i personally responded to the event.  Yes, it was shocking!  If you ask anyone what they were doing at that moment, they can tell you, since it had an emotional impact.  It got wired into our physiology. For me it was sadness, bewilderment then immediately the contemplation of why?

I remember going to class that night and saying out loud, yet quietly , hmmm some karmic debt is being played out.  I held my breath to see how others would respond.  Surprisingly there was just quiet.

I love this country, I am so grateful to be born in this country, where I can be free to be all of who I am.  Yet, I have watched throughout history how this country with it politics have truly hurt others without any kind of atonement.

Internationally..I look at Nicaragua , Iraq, Iran, Africa, just to name a few, how we go in and tumble governments for what we feel is “right”. How arrogant, since culturally we had no idea of the impact on them.  This we learned only in retrospect.  Here is this country we have taken from the Native Americans and Black Americans.  Even today, I look at what in the name of “progress” we are doing with the pipeline, going through Sacred Ground of the First Nation people.  I heard the other day one of our candidates saying “just go in and take the oil” (paraphrased).

So do we remember?  For me this means I will bless the mistakes I have made in the past that have truly hurt others, I will ask for forgiveness, this is the only  purpose for me in remembering. When I remember and feel guilt, I realize that on some level I am still doing the thinking, feeling or behaving the same way that caused the problem in the first place..yikes!

Forgiving?  Yes, We as a nation need to truly atone for all we have done to others in pursuit of our own goals. I can look at myself when I am striving to “get something” how I can be so blind to the impact I am having on those around me. When I become conscious of this, is when I can then go and atone.

As an American I can truly see and feel the goodness in individuals when there is a tragedy.  We do come together, we are a service oriented people.  However, I also need to re-mind myself that I am also a citizen of the World.  With this acknowledgement I must then be aware of how and what I can do to help others, and how my choices impact all peoples around the world.

We can do this individually to radiate out into the greater field that holds us all. There is a field of energy that holds us all, in every country around the world.  This is now a scientific fact that many of us deeply know. It is accessed through our hearts.  Take the time right now to just drop into your own heart, breathe deeply, imagine being connected to all who have suffered, and ask your own heart what you can do as an individual to shift the outplay of our own unconscious acts.

The E Pluribus Unum , out of many, one.  Now I think we are being asked to take this philosophy to a greater stage, that of the world.  We come from One Source, no matter how we chose to worship, speak, honor this or not, it is still a proven fact both scientifically and spiritually.

With all of this said, I personally know I have forgiven myself when I don’t remember the event, no matter what event it is,  with any feelings other than gratitude.

What is your opinion?
